Sudden Demise of Surekha Sikri Sends Wave of Sadness in Bollywood

Today veteran actress “Surekha Sikri” passes away at age of 75 due to cardiac arrest. The whole Bollywood fraternity is paying their tributes to three-time National Award winner. She has been suffering from several major health complications since last year.

However, she had a second brain stroke in year 2020. Bollywood celebrities pay their tribute to the late actress by remembering her power-packed performances. Actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Sidharth Shukla, Anubhav Sinha, Rakhi Sawant mourns on social media platform.

Manoj Bajpayee sends his condolences to her family through a tweet. He says, “Very sad news! One of the greatest talent Surekha Sikri ji.” It is literally a treat to watch her on the stage. We just cannot forget some of those memories of her act in the theatre. Amazingly, a great craft and a graceful person, RIP.

Even Delhi CHIEF Minister Arvind Kejriwal expresses his condolences on micro- blogging site. Moreover, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi calls her “an institution” by stating that “few actors are as versatile & accomplished as Surekha Sikri ji”.

The manager of the actress gives info in his statement, “ Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri have pass away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at age of 75. She has been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke”.

He added, “She is being surrounding by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. OM Sai Ram”.

She gave her first appearance on silver screen in the 1978 film “ Kissa Kursi Ka”. After that she gave back to back great performances on silver screen. Their after she had her roles in films like Govind Nihalani’s Tamas, Shyam Benegal’s Mammo and Sardari Begum.

Later in year 90s, she rose to fame in television shows like Banegi Apni Baat and Just Mohabbat. However, she made her name among masses with her serial “ BALIKA VADHU”. People remember her for the matriarch name Kalyani Devi who rules with iron but gradually softens with protagonist Anandi.

Her flawless acting bags her National Award for the film Badhaai Ho in year 2018. She played a role of an orthodox woman but later ready to embrace the new world. However, she was last seen in the Netflix anthology Ghost stories.Here, she starred alongside Janhvi Kapoor in Zoya Akhtar directorial.

Personal life journey of Surekha Sikri

The legendary actress was born on 19 April 1945 in Uttar Pradesh. She dedicated her entire life to Indian theatre, films and TV serials. Moreover, she also did supporting roles in numerous Hindi and Malayalam films.

Her childhood days were spent in Almora and Nainital. The initial studies were done at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Later, she graduated from National School of Drama (NSD) IN 1971. Moreover, she also worked with the NSD Repertory Company for over a decade before shifting to Mumbai.

She married Hemant Rege and had a son with him. His husband died due to heart failure on 20 October in year 2009.
