Singer Honey Singh’s wife Shalini Talwar has filed a case of domestic violence, sexual violence, mental harassment and financial fraud against him. She has filed a plea under the protection of women from the Domestic Violence Act. The case was registered on 3rd August, before Ms Tania Singh, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Tees Hazari court. Honey Singh‘s wife Shalini Talwar‘s petition puts not just him in the dock but even his parents and younger sister. It details how the singer’s attitude towards Shalini changed suddenly after they reached Mauritius, for their honeymoon in 2011. They got married that year and the two had just celebrated their 10th anniversary in January, this year. The petition said that honey Singh was rude, brash and cold towards Shalini. Moreover, when she asked him about it, he pushed her on the bed and told her that he got married to her against his will. He forcefully married her only due to the commitment he had made to her. She also accused him of leaving her alone on the trip and was in a drunken state.
When she asked him about it, he pulled her hair and slapped her, and then left her crying there. She also mentioned how honey Singh refused to take her along on his tours and began having frequent casual sex with multiple women. He never disclosed to the world that he was married and refused to wear his wedding ring in public. He always made an excuse that diamonds are bad luck for him, she said. The petition also said that when pictures from the wedding were leaked online, he had mercilessly beaten her up. Also, he accused her of being the one behind the leak. To cover up the news about their marriage, the singer got someone to morph those pictures. As a matter of fact, he made it look as if the photos were from a movie shoot.
But Shalini soon found out about Honey Singh ‘s debauched ways and finally decided to raise her voice against all this. Soon Shalini started accusing him of having an affair with a woman who worked with him on one of his music videos called Brown Rang. As per the petition, while Shalini was fasting for him on Karva Chauth, he was abroad with the woman. Upon his return, she found pictures of him with the woman in a compromising position. When she questioned him, he told Shalini to mind her own business and threw liquor bottles at her. Shalini said that she found more pictures with different women later, as well.

I had a beard and didn’t get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people. That’s what bipolar disorder does to you.”
“The last 18 months were the darkest phase of my life, and I wasn’t in a state to talk to anyone. I know there were rumours that I was in rehab, but I was in my Noida house throughout. The truth is I was suffering from bipolar disorder. It went on for 18 months, during which I changed four doctors, the medication wasn’t working on me and crazy things were happening. I must confess that I was bipolar and an alcoholic, which aggravated the condition,” the singer and rapper added.

Back in 2014, Honey Singh introduced his wife to the audience in an episode of the reality show India’s Raw Star. However, it was a shock for many fans that he married before starring in mega projects of Bollywood. Yo Yo Honey Singh earned fame after his song Angrezi Beat from Cocktail and Lungi Dance from superhit film Chennai Express. Today, he is popular for his party numbers that glorify alcohol, and substance abuse.
Ironically, Honey Singh aka Desi Kalakaar gained fame mostly through songs that glamorise the objectification of women and liquor. She also asked the court to order the singer to pay her a rent of five lakh rupees every month for fully furnished accommodation in Delhi. This, according to her, would enable her to live by herself and not remain dependent on her widowed mother.

Shalini has also claimed that her father-in-law once walked into her room in a drunken state while she was changing clothes and grazed his hands over her chest. The lawyer denied commenting on any of the allegations made into the petition saying that the subdued matter. Moreover, it might affect the allegations and the trial that would take place before the court.
In fact, an interim order has also been passed in this case wherein Honey Singh has been restrained from disposing of a property that is jointly owned by him and his wife until dependency of this whole case. As she has filed this complaint herself, it is a long petition. It is an application under the protection of women from our domestic violence act. However, the testimony of the applicant is itself in fact, a kind of evidence. Additionally, the testimony can be used in the court however, it would be subject to a trial when the court would be hearing the matter it would see if the allegations are true. Therefore, now the case is in the hands of the court and we are hopeful that the victory will be of truth.
