Summer Drinks to Beat the Heat and Coronavirus

Summers are all about ice-creams, juices, lemonade, roohafza, and plenty of other refreshing summer drinks. But with cases of COVID-19 spiralling in India, the main advice to everybody is not to have cold beverages as it may lead to a sore throat. Moreover, WHO has declared it a pandemic so undoubtedly, we need to protect ourselves against infections. And for this purpose, it’s necessary to wash hands with soap regularly and avoid going to crowded places. With that said, we also need to have some home remedies in order to boost our immunity.

Summer drinks to boost immunity

According to Ayurveda, kadhas do wonders and boost immunity like nothing else. Moreover, kadhas can be prepared easily at your home. Although kadha is never tasty, it has numerous health benefits and most importantly, is the best immunity booster of all time.

  • In a litre of water add a tablespoon of dried ginger, 4 teaspoons of coriander seeds, and some fresh tulsi leaves. Now, boil and strain it and then drink.
  • Mix milk and water in the ratio of 1:4 and then add three cloves of garlic. Boil it till it gets up to one glass and then strain it. You can drink it instead of tea/coffee.
  • In 500 ml of butter milk add a teaspoon each of ajwain, turmeric powder, fenugreek and fennel seeds and some curry leaves. Warm it for 4-5 minutes and drink it twice or thrice daily.

The most commonly available ingredients — ginger, garlic, turmeric, and small onions, can be found in any kitchen and added to bolster immunity. You can either add these to make kadha or in your chutneys, upma, or rice. Other than that, you can also have tea, coffee, hot ginger tea, green tea, and other hot beverages with low sugar and caffeine content. Also, eat seasonal fruits and vegetables as these are filled with the necessary nutrients. You can easily make summer drinks with them.

Refreshing Summer Drinks

You can also try fruit and vegetable juices to bolster your immunity. These immunity-boosting drinks can be prepared at home easily with the fruits and vegetables that are available in your home.

TOMATO JUICE

Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins, iron, and help you to fight infections. Cut two tomatoes and boil them in a pan for 20 minutes until they are soft. Once it gets cool, mash the tomatoes in a blender. Thereafter, strain the juice and drink it.

WATERMELON JUICE

Apart from strengthening immunity, watermelon juice adds as a treat for summers. Watermelons help in boosting immunity and also cure sore muscles. Blend some watermelon with water in a blender, and add some sugar if you want to.

APPLE JUICE

Apples contain loads of vitamins and folic acid. Blend an apple in a mixer and strain the mixture. This juice works like a magic potion and helps your body to get rid of toxins and fight infections.

BEETROOT JUICE

Boil a beetroot and blend it with some water. Once it cools down, strain the mixture and it is ready to drink. Beetroot is a good source of iron and Vitamin C, which not only helps to boost your immune system but also your complexion.

HONEY LEMON WATER

Lemon juice is loaded with vitamin C, but instead of adding sugar, you can add honey. Honey has antibacterial qualities and is rich in antioxidants, and therefore, it is great for strengthening the immune system. Just add a teaspoon of lemon juice and honey in warm water and you are good to go.

ORANGE JUICE

Oranges are loaded with Vitamin C and their juice contains plenty of vitamins and nutrients. And thus, a glass of orange juice can keep you safe from diseases and infections.

Benefits of summer drinks

Undoubtedly, metabolism also plays a significant role in building our immunity. Eat your meals at proper intervals in such a way that by the time you have your second, the first one is completely digested. Additionally, have a light dinner like a bowl of salad or boiled dal. Another important thing is to get sufficient sleep and get your body ready for the next day.
