The 8th of March is a day dedicated to all the women’s across the globe. This is a day internationally recognized to honor women and their struggle for equality.
2020 theme
Each year, the United Nations has a theme for Women’s day to make it even more special. #EachforEqual is the adopted theme for this year. This hashtag promotes gender equality and encourages everyone to stand up against discrimination. The hashtag also emphasises “collective individualism”. This means that every single individual is part of a larger community. The mindset and actions of each individual contribute to a larger level. Each one of us should be accountable for fighting against discrimination.
Official holiday
In more than 20 countries, women’s are consider as a holiday. Countries like Afghanistan, Russia, Cuba and many others have declared International Women’ as a holiday for everyone.
Whereas, in some countries like China and Nepal, the holiday is only for women. Men shower the women in their life with gifts and flowers. Not only men, but women also give each other presents and celebrate International Women’s Day.
Purple all the way
Purple is the color of justice and dignity. Major events, exhibitions and conferences take place all over the world. These events are led by powerful women to create awareness. People attend these events and wear purple to show their support. If you cannot attend any of these events then simply flaunt the color purple on International Women’s Day.

Celebrations in countries
There are several rallies that take place across the world to support certain causes. In Spain, more than five million people were on a 24-hour strike to protest against the gender pay gap and sexual discrimination in the workplace. This was the scenario of 2018. In the UK, several events take place and some of them are fundraising. They raise funds for charities that support women’s rights. In Italy, women’s day is celebrated by gifting them yellow Mimosa blossom flowers. The flowers symbolize strength and sensibility. La Festa Della Donna is the name for women’s day in Italy. In India, the Prime Minister is giving away his Twitter account to a woman on Women’s day.
