Irfan Khan’s death: Loss to World Cinema

“Kismat ki Ek Khas Baat hoti hai vo palat ti hai” no one can forget the essence of this dialogue. Yes, I am talking about the exceptionally talented and skilful actor of our era.

Irfan khan who passed away at the young age of 53. His death came as a sudden shock on 29 April 2020. He died in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he was fighting the battle. The Piku actor was admitted to ICU on Tuesday with colon infection.

Cause of the death-Irfan Khan

The reason for his death is the Neuroendocrine tumour from which he was fighting the battle since 2018. While shooting for English medium, the actor skipped his chemotherapy treatment due to ongoing shooting. Around 10 days before, he was hospitalised due to his degrading health conditions. On Tuesday night he was again taken to hospital and he died.

Surprisingly, in March 2018 Irfan Khan was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine tumour and he was in the UK for the treatment. He wrote a heartfelt note describing his struggles in fighting the battle. With the constant support and love of family and friends, he recovered. Therefore, he was shooting for English Medium which is now his last movie. However, we never imagined one day this news of his death would come forward. The Hindi medium actor is survived by wife Sutapa Sikdar and two sons.

Early Life and Films

The Slumdog Millionaire inspector was born in Jaipur in 1966. and was the son of a tyre seller. After his failure in cricket due to economic conditions, he went to drama school. He started his career working from the Television industry. Differing from others this actor made his own identity in the Bollywood and Hollywood Industry.

The Warrior,  a feature film is his breakthrough movie. The movie was directed by a British director in low budget in India. This movie won the Bafta award for best British film. Undoubtedly this movie helped him to get into mainstream Bollywood. Earlier he used to perform the roles of cops and villain. Maqbool being his one of the major hits.

He worked in various Bollywood movies such as Piku, Slumdog Millionaire, the lunchbox, Karwaan, Hindi Medium, Angrezi Medium.

International Career

The Maqbool actor performed the role of chief police in The Mighty Heart. He also played the role of the doctor in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012. Apart from this in 2015, he played the role of a businessman in the Jurassic world. Additionally, Inferno and Life of Pi are his other major hits.

In 2012 he won Oscar for his lead role in Life of Pi, directed by Ang Lee. Apart from this, he bagged Filmfare four times for ‘Haasil’ (2004), ‘Life in a Metro’ (2008) ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ (2013) and ‘Hindi Medium’ (2018).

He was ‘MAN OF THE YEAR’ in GQ magazine. In 2013 he won National award for Best Actor in Paan Singh Tomar. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2011 for his contribution in the Creative world. He has won multiple international felicitations from Paris to New York to Toanato for his performances.

Reaction Of Bollywood celebrities

The news of the death of Irfan Khan came as a shock. Bollywood Industry has lost one of his precious gems. The Wednesday actor, Anupam Khera took to social media and posted a video mourning his death. From Sonam Kapoor to Amitabh Bachchan everyone shared their pain.

He left for heaven, Irfan’s death has left us in shock and we all pray for him and hope he is at peace. A few days ago Irfan khan’s mother’s died and he couldn’t go to her last rituals amid COVID-19. Indian and World Cinema can never forget his contribution. Indeed, he said it very right that people know him for his work, not for his face.
