INCREASING LUNG TRANSPLANT CASES

 

The increasing advancement in medical field is a miracle to humanity. It is helping the doctors and physicians to treat serious medical ailments. In sequence to this teams of Indians doctors have performed a complex bilateral lung transplant on a 4 year old boy from Russia.

It’s a state worry that double lung transplants is on rise after corona crisis. It is leading to deposition of yellow fibrotic scar tissue, creating a “honeycomb change”. This do makes the lungs completely solid. For such people lung transplant is a necessity though timing is important.

It is now one of the Asia’s youngest recipients to undergo this procedure. Doctors are performing surgery  at MGM Healthcare (Chennai (Tamil Nadu). It included a 20 member team under the leadership of Dr. KR Balakrishnan , a chairman & Director of Cardiac Sciences.

Earlier also the team of the hospital have perform many such innovative and complex surgieries. This healthcare unit is well equipped and designed with the latest technology.

DETAIL MEDICAL CASE OF LITTLE PATEINT

Dr. Balakrishnan explains the medical case, “ Master. Nazar Dianov, a 4 year old child from Russia is suffering  with fibrosing alveolitis at tender age of 2 months”. The boy was living with fibrosing alveolitis, a kind of lung disorder. It is a progressive scarring of lung tissue resulting in declining of lung function.  After that he is on ventilator as his oxygen saturation got extremely low.

He then underwent tracheotomy procedure at age of 6 months in Russia. Later on he is being  airlift to Chennai for further medical procedure in year 2018. However, he was kept for ventilator for three years in Chennai in wait for a suitable donor.

Then in year December 2020, a brain dead two year toddler became a donor for him. His organ was airlift from Gujarat to Chennai hospital. Eventually, Master Nazar underwent bilateral lung transplantation in December 2020. Later, he is  now  under observation in ICU care for further observation.

THE RECENT UPDATE OF LUNG TRANSPLANT

The recent update on this medical case is quite tremendous. The newly transplanted lungs are responding well in the patient. This shall be the longest observation for a small child to be kept on ventilator before going a successful transplant in India. Moreover, no such complications are seen in child.

Infact, it shall be the youngest patient in Asia to get lung transplant. Dr. K.R. Balakrishnan shares his experience to be tremendous. According to him, “it is a herculean task anywhere in world to keep a small child on ventilator for three years without complication”. Interestingly nurses have learnt to speak a few words of Russian and boy understands common word in Tamil.

The parents of little boy are too overwhelmed by the Indian hospitality. They are thanking the whole clinical team led by Dr. Balakrishnan and Suresh Rao at MGM Healthcare for giving new life to their son. They extend their gratitude to the nursing team for the diligent service.

Moreover, they are thanking the donor family for this extreme generous gift to their son. It is certainly tough time for the patient’s family and for the little boy. Without the help and support of dedicating doctors it wouldn’t have been possible.

The child is on the path of recovery and is now off the ventilator. Though he needs minimal oxygen support sometimes. He is recovering well and is undergoing physiotherapy procedure. Doctors do ensure a normal life in the future for him. We wish a good luck and health for the little boy.
