Very recently a bishop Neophytos Masouras of the Church of Cyprus made a statement related to the gay community. The speech of orthodox bishop’s generated a storm of criticism and ridicule in social media across the globe. That surreal comment he made during a spiritual session last June. The Greek religious leader said that homosexuality is a problem and it is generally transmitted to the children through their parents. People of media people outrage their anger against the orthodox bishop for this bizarre comment.
In the spiritual meeting session in a primary school, he claimed that it mainly happens when parents are involved in intercourse or during the pregnancy. It happened due to the unconventional sexual act of the parents. The speech of orthodox bishop’s specified the fact with an example of anal sex. The orthodox Greek religious leader also mentioned that when a woman enjoys this king of sexual acts a desire got created at that time. After that, the desire got passed to the child. This particular clip of his speech went viral on social media like a tornado. A group who fight for LGBT rights asked the bishop with sarcasm about the creation of lesbians. Another social media user said, “So, father, if the woman does oral, will the child become a dentist?” other one made a comment, “The problem is not this ignoramus, the tragic problem is that there are thousands who believe him.”
The extremely conventional bishop also added that he followed to Saint Porphyrios who is a deceased chaplain. Many years ago he asked to stay single to the gay people. Along with this he also prayed for them so that their sexuality goes away.
In the year 1998, Cyprus decriminalized homosexuality. In 2004 Cyprus banned the discrimination which is especially based on gender identity and sexual orientation. But still, gay people do not get any chance to serve in the army there as well as the same-sex couples are not allowed to adopt children legally.
